if the head is warped will the car still start.

Usually yes. But you will usually have a misfire on 1 or more cylinder(s), water in the oil, oil in the water, exhaust in the water, or water in a cylinder. Check for milky looking oil, oil in radiator, bubbles in radiator, or excessive steam from exhaust.
