if your gauge is not working you may have a problem with the gauge or the temp. sensor. how do you know if the coolant is cold? if you feel the coolant in the radiator is always cold then your engine is probably over heating. you may need to change the thermostat.

our 2000 chevy venture always had electrial sensor problems, but i bet its a vaccum hose leak to the heater control box, if you have heat at the firewall heaterhoses, then its not themost, but vaccum leak or linkage not reconnected after the new engine was installed
