I have a 5 year old Jack Demsey fish. It has been swimming on its side for almost 4 weeks with a large swollen area on the Lt side of the fish. It still eats and trys to manover around in the tank. Just at the top. What to do

There are several things it could be, is it on the gills or in the gill area? There are some bacterial infections that could cause this, and they are somewhat easy to treat. If it is on a random spot on the side of the fish can you tell if there is an injury? If so it could have become infected, this could be easy to solve if it isn't too far along.
