I am planning a cruise from Buenos Aires to Santiago (Valpariaso) next February. It sails around the bottom of South America and covers both the Argentine and Chilean sides of Pantagonia. I just happened to be reading a guide book last night and was surprised to learn that more people speak Welsh in the Argentine area of central Pantagonia than anywhere else in the world, outside of Wales. As leakywelly pointed out, this arose from immigration that originally began in the mid to late nineteenth century, particularly in the area around Trelew. (Apparently the dinosaurs liked the place as well because there's a famed Paleontology Museum there. Because of the remoteness of the place, they kept their Welsh language and traditions. The area I live in, in suburban Philadelphia, was also originally settled by the Welsh but no one here speaks the language anymore. It's hard enough learning how to pronounce the place names they left behind (Bryn Mawr, Bala Cynwyd, Llanarch and the like!)
