will not rev past 2000 rpm

the motor i just instaled will not rev past 2000 rpm or maintain a consistant idel speed. what would cause this?.

it sounds like you may have a problem with the throttle position sensor (TPS). There are many sensors that can cause a problem like you are having. if your check engine light is on then have the codes read with a hand held scanner and that should lead you on the right path. also you might check the EGR valve. if it has any carbon build up in the hole then your plunger cannot work properly.
